This is one of those really effed up situations in the world. I lived in Atlanta for a long time and there is a sizable Somali community there. I’ve heard countless horror stories from my Somali friends about the things happening in their home country.

What really burns me about this story, is that for a short time, there was some peace. The Islamic Courts conquered Mogadishu (the capital of Somalia) and brought some calm to the country.

But since the U.S. deemed them to be a terrorist organization, they backed Ethiopia in driving the Islamic Courts out. I’m not sure what this ragtag bunch of Somalis ever did to piss America off, but as usual, in the end, the Somali people suffered.

Eventually the Ethiopians were driven out anyway and now there’s even more violence in Mogadishu.
