What makes the Islamic religion different?
What’s so special about the Muslim religion? How is it any different from the other monotheistic faiths (primarily Christianity and Judaism)?
There are a lot of similarities between Islam and other faiths. But there are a lot of differences also.
Muslim Beliefs and Christian Beliefs
Here are the primary differences between Muslims and Christians:
Christians generally:
- Worship Jesus
- Believe God is a Trinity
- Eat pork
- Drink alcohol
- Believe the Bible is God’s word
- Don’t believe Prophet Muhammad was a prophet
- Believe Jesus is God’s son
- Believe in the concept of the original sin
Muslim generally:
- Believe worshipping anything else besides Allah is a major sin
- Do not believe in a Trinity
- Do not eat pork
- Do not drink alcohol
- Believe the Quran is Allah’s word
- Believe Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet of Allah
- Believe Jesus was another prophet of Allah, but His son
- Do not believe in the concept of the original sin
Muslim Beliefs and Jewish Beliefs
Here are the primary differences between the Muslim religion and the Jewish religion:
Judiasm
- Is not comprised of a specific set of beliefs
- Recognizes neither Jesus nor Muhammad as prophets of God
- Does not recognize Jesus as the Messiah
- Does not accept the concept of Satan, or the Devil
- Does not have a fully detailed account of theĀ next life
Islam
- Has a very specific set of beliefs and required acts
- Recognized both Jesus and Muhammad as prophets of Allah
- Teaches that Jesus is the promised Messiah
- Teaches that Iblis is Satan, the Devil, who’s primarily goal is to lead mankind to hell
- Has a very distinct and detailed account of the next life
