I hate to even have to talk about this story. However, I’m afraid it’s going to die in the media’s eyes and slowly fade from our memory until the next tragedy happens.
Right now, the mainstream media is all over it. Most of the reports sound a little biased against the men, but then again all of the information we’re getting is coming from the Pakistani police. They have their own agenda and have already made up their minds that the Americans were there for violent reasons.
Two days ago we all found out about the 5 Americans arrested in Pakistan on terror charges. Not many more details have come out since then, but the FBI have confirmed the men arrested are American.
I still find it strange that these brothers were all in Pakistan. I’m hoping, along with most other American Muslims, that they were there for benign, innocent reasons. One of them men was from Pakistan, and his mother was visiting the country to find him a wife. She thought he was there to surprise her. Inshallah, that is the truth.
I mentioned in my last post how this is just the most recent event in a long series of event involving American Muslims and terrorism/jihad/attacks/shootings/violence.
This is a disturbing trend. Not because I fear that American Muslims are being radicalized. But I don’t like the way we are being portrayed in the media. For every good story we hear concerning American Muslms, there are five bad ones.
I’m worried about what’s going to happen next. What happens if someone does something really crazy? Well, Fort Hood was really crazy, but how much more before Americans start turning into Bosnian Serbs?
The Bosnian Muslims were more assimilated in Bosnian culture than American Muslims are in American culture. Except for their names, you could never tell a Serb from a Muslim.
The Serbs and Muslims were neighbors. The Muslims were not particularly religious. They weren’t violent against the Serbs. They even intermarried and dated.
Yet, under the right conditions, those same “neighborly” Serbs turned against the Bosnian Muslims like wild dogs.
Not trying to alarm anyone. Just trying to warn.
