I don’t want to talk too much about myself. You can go to my website Islamic Learning Materials and read the about page over there. But since I know some of you won’t, I’ll divulge a little about myself here and now.
My parents were both born Christian. They both converted to Islam sometime in the late 60’s or early 70’s. I was born and raised Muslim, but until I was a teenager, I knew very little about Islam. I knew a few surahs, and I kinda knew how to pray. I knew what the Five Pillars of Islam were. But that was about it.
I grew up primarily in Brooklyn, New York. When I was 15, my mother decided NY was just getting too crazy and dangerous. It wasn’t enough for me to just leave the city. She sent me out of the country. All the way to Senegal, West Africa to study Islam.
Needless to say, that was an amazing experience. I did learn a lot about my religion. I learned to love Islam and I learned how important Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is. I stayed in Senegal for three years under some pretty harsh situations. But I say this with all my heart; that was one of the most important events of my life.
After 3 years in Senegal, I went to Darul Uloom in Trinidad and Tobago to study another two years. Alhamdulillah, Allah blessed me with the chance to increase my knowledge even further and meet some of the best Muslims I’ve ever known.
So after a total of five years of studying Islam in foreign countries I returne to the US for good. I eventually went to Bethune-Cookman College (now Bethune-Cookman University) in Daytona Beach, Florida, got married and started having a bunch of kids. I wound up graduating from college with a degree in Accounting.
I now live in Atlanta, Georgia and am trying to do my little part to spread Islamic knowledge. I have lots of goals, dreams, and aspirations. But mostly, I really want to be a good Muslim husband, father, brother, and son, and raise a good Muslim family. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
I don’t know why I’m telling you this or why you’d care, but here are my interests (outside Islam):
